Modify Your Application

If you need to update information on your submitted ESTA application, such as travel dates, passport details, or contact information, you can submit a modification request. Our modification service allows you to make changes to your application without having to start a new submission from scratch, saving you time and effort while ensuring your travel authorization remains accurate and up to date.

Please note that modifications are subject to availability depending on the current processing stage of your application. Applications that are still in the review phase are generally eligible for modification, while those that have already been processed and approved may have limited modification options. In some cases, a new application may be required if significant changes are needed after final approval.

What Can Be Modified?

Our modification service covers a range of application details that travelers commonly need to update after initial submission. The following categories of information can typically be modified, provided your application has not yet reached a stage where changes are no longer possible:

  • Travel Dates and Itinerary: If your departure or return dates have changed, or if you need to update your planned destinations within the United States, you can submit these changes through our modification form. This is one of the most common types of modification requests we receive.
  • Contact Information: Update your email address, phone number, or mailing address to ensure you continue receiving important communications about your application and travel authorization status.
  • Accommodation Details: If your hotel, rental property, or host address in the United States has changed, you can update these details to ensure your application reflects your current travel plans.
  • Employment Information: Changes to your employer name, job title, or business address can be submitted if your employment situation has changed since you filed your application.
  • Emergency Contact Information: Update the name, phone number, or relationship of your designated emergency contact person to ensure this critical information is current.

What Cannot Be Modified?

Certain core fields of your ESTA application cannot be changed through the modification process. These include fundamental identity details that are integral to the application itself:

  • Full Legal Name: If your name has changed (for example, due to marriage), a new application must be submitted with the updated name and corresponding passport information.
  • Passport Number: Since the ESTA is linked to a specific passport, a change in passport number requires a new ESTA application rather than a modification to the existing one.
  • Date of Birth: This field cannot be altered after submission. If an error was made, please contact our support team for guidance on next steps.
  • Country of Citizenship: Changes to nationality or citizenship require a completely new application with updated supporting documentation.

How the Modification Process Works

Submitting a modification request is straightforward. Here is a step-by-step overview of how the process works from start to finish:

  1. Submit Your Request: Fill out the modification form below with your application reference number, registered email address, and a detailed description of the changes you need to make. The more specific you are, the faster we can process your request.
  2. Verification: Our team will verify your identity and confirm that your application is eligible for modification based on its current processing stage.
  3. Review and Processing: Once verified, your requested changes will be reviewed and applied to your application. Our team will ensure that all modifications are accurate and consistent with the rest of your application details.
  4. Confirmation: You will receive an email confirmation once your modifications have been successfully applied, along with an updated summary of your application details for your records.

Modification Eligibility by Processing Stage

The ability to modify your application depends on where it currently stands in the processing pipeline. Understanding these stages will help you determine whether a modification request is likely to be accepted:

  • Received / Under Review: Modifications are typically accepted without issue at this stage, as your application has not yet been finalized.
  • Processing: Limited modifications may be possible depending on how far along the processing has progressed. Contact our team for guidance if your application shows this status.
  • Approved: Once approved, only certain non-critical details (such as travel dates, accommodation, and contact information) can be updated. Changes to identity-related fields will require a new application.
  • Denied: Applications that have been denied cannot be modified. You will need to submit a new application addressing the reasons for the denial.

Processing Time for Modifications

Most modification requests are reviewed and processed within 24 to 48 hours of submission. However, during peak travel seasons or periods of high application volume, processing may take slightly longer. We recommend submitting modification requests as early as possible, especially if your travel date is approaching. If your modification is time-sensitive, please indicate this clearly in the details section of the form, and our team will prioritize your request accordingly.

Fees for Modifications

Depending on the nature and extent of the changes requested, a modification fee may apply. Simple updates such as contact information or accommodation details are generally processed at no additional cost. More complex modifications that require re-review of your application may incur a processing fee. You will be informed of any applicable fees before your modification is processed, and no charges will be applied without your consent. For detailed information about our fee structure, please visit our Fees page.

Tips for a Successful Modification Request

  • Double-check your application reference number before submitting to ensure we can locate your application quickly and accurately.
  • Provide specific details about what needs to be changed, including the current information and the updated information you want to replace it with.
  • Submit your modification request as early as possible to allow adequate processing time before your travel date.
  • Monitor your email for any follow-up communications from our team, including requests for additional information or confirmation of applied changes.
